The Birthday NFT: Yet Another Use Case!

This is really getting out of hands now. People have started associating me with cryptocurrency. Yes, that was the intention as well, but it was least expected from my spouse. I mean I didn’t have any doubts to start with, but what she gifted me on this birthday, proved that she’s indeed a keeper.

So in this blogpost I talk about that gift, why it was the best gift ever and how I gave it yet another crypto twist. Yes! The OCD (Obsessive Crypto Disorder) is real. Let’s get started:

Introducing Mrs. Pandatechie:

A little about my wife before we jump into the world of NFTs. I got married a little over three years now. Life has taken a 360 degree turn since then (no pun intended).

She is an interior designer by degree who used to work with AirBNB before we moved to Mumbai. After settling down in this beautiful city, she decided to follow her age old passion: baking.

She finally quit the notorious rat race and decided to go all in. Ever since she is much happier and at peace. Nothing satisfies me more than that.

Of course she used her interior designing skills there as well. For example, just look at these beautifully stacked brownies. Also focus on the details in the backdrop and music to go with it.

What’s the Gift?

Well, its not gift, it’s gifts. This time, she decided to treat me with 31 gifts. One for each day of the month. Luckily, my birthday falls on 31st, so it made complete sense.

All the gifts that I got had a crypto theme. For example, I got a crypto mobile cover, fridge magnet, laptop sticker and an amazing Bitcoin T-shirt. The very reason that she could find one for my size was beyond my expectations.

But the gift on the final day was completely amazing. She baked me this awesome Bitcoin themed cake (image below)

I know we could’ve lived without fiat being a part of this cake but I’ll give that to her. Come on, at least she acknowledged her husband’s passion right?

What did I do with the Cake?

Of course I ate it you degens! Just kidding. Well, before I ate it, there was an obvious photo shoot. We do it at any XYZ restaurant with a random dish any way. This on the other hand was extremely special. A validation of my beliefs, an approval to follow my dreams and an acknowledgement that crypto is here to stay as an integral part of my life.

Once the cake related rituals of eating and putting it on my face were done, I started sharing photo of that cake to my close ones.

One after the other, everyone applauded the cake, until one of my friends…

He jokingly asked me to make an NFT out of the cake’s image. And just like some normies, we laughed it off and let it go.

But Wait..

What if I actually could? So right after I had dinner that night, I started thinking about it. And that’s when it struck me. Making an NFT out of the cake’s image can have multiple benefits which are as follows:

A. Hitting the TG:

Since I did not see any crypto themed cakes so far, I realized that it is still a niche category. So what if we go to a place where all these enthusiasts hang out. Yes Opensea, I am talking to you. NFTs are already a buzz these days and with more people exploring it each day, an NFT marketplace was the cake was the place to be!

B. Newer Audience:

The best thing about crypto is that it isn’t bound by geographies. It’s a global phenomena. So by putting this cake as an NFT, I get more eyeballs. They may or may not convert into sales but that’s secondary. My priority was to test if this is an efficient way of spreading the word out.

C. Sales

Of course I am not selling a Jpeg to the community. There’s a significant benefit for the holder of this exclusive NFT. Person who purchases this NFT gets a chance to order 4 cakes from ChocoArt for absolutely free. These cakes may or may not be crypto themed (depending on the buyer).

D. Hype Wagon and Experimentation:

NFTs are really hot right now. I recently enrolled in a DeFi course. As an early adopter, I got some turtle NFTs along with the purchase. Just for the heck of it, I listed these NFTs on Opensea. About a month later, someone purchased that turtle for 0.1 ETH (~INR 30K at the current price point).

So, if a turtle that had no significant meaning for a random purchaser can be sold, I am providing a tangible real world service along with my NFT. This would also help me quench the experimentation thirst too!

What’s Next?

To be honest, absolutely nothing. I am just curious to know if any bakery could sell their subscription model (of sorts) using this mechanism.

Where can I see this NFT? Glad you asked.

Here’s the link of the NFT on opensea platform. If you live in Mumbai metropolitan region, might as well consider purchasing this NFT to get you covered for an entire year.

Conclusion:

Can you reimagine doing business using the new age tools like this? I would love to explore the ideas that might’ve popped up in your head after this.

I think at the current pace, I won’t be surprised if Indian exchanges like Zerodha, CoinDCX start gifting people NFTs along with their first purchase etc. Possibilities are endless.

Also, if you are wondering how could you make NFTs just like that, head over to this post.
